Countries eligible for direct conversion
Malaysia has Mutual Recognition Agreements with most countries that operate JPJ-comparable licensing regimes. The list below covers the cases we’ve seen most often this year:
- Asia: Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan
- Oceania: Australia, New Zealand
- UK and Europe: United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Italy, Switzerland
- Middle East: United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia (with additional Arabic translation)
- North America: Canada (some provinces require an interview), United States (state-by-state assessment)
If your country isn’t listed, you may still convert via a JPJ-supervised driving assessment instead of resitting the full KPP. We’ll confirm the route during your free consult.
Documents you’ll need
- Original foreign driving licence (we’ll sight, photocopy and return same day)
- Passport with valid Malaysian visa or Long-Term Pass
- One recent passport-sized photo (we can take one on-site)
- Letter from your employer or sponsor (for some visa categories)
- Sworn translation if your licence isn’t in English or Malay (we arrange this)
The conversion journey — nine to fourteen working days
Day 1 — Document intake
Visit our Setia Walk studio (or send documents via WhatsApp). We verify eligibility, photocopy everything, take your photo and eye-test result, and arrange the sworn translation if needed.
Days 2–4 — Sworn translation
For licences not in English or Malay, our court-certified translator returns the document within three working days. You can wait in Malaysia while this happens — we keep the original safe.
Day 5 — JPJ submission
We accompany you to the JPJ Putrajaya conversion counter, submit all paperwork, pay the conversion fee on your behalf and book the PUSPAKOM verification slot.
Days 6–10 — PUSPAKOM verification
A brief PUSPAKOM session confirms your driving competence (it is more of a familiarity check than a full road test). We brief you on what to expect and accompany you on the day if you’d like.
Days 11–14 — Licence issuance
JPJ issues your physical Malaysian P licence (valid for two years initially, then renewable as a full Class D). We collect on your behalf or you can pick up directly.
What it costs
The Omnitura conversion package is RM 720 all-in: this includes JPJ administration, our handling fee, the eye-test, and PUSPAKOM verification accompaniment. Sworn translation (for non-English/Malay licences) is an additional RM 180–240 depending on language and length. Express track (9-day completion) adds RM 180.
“The conversion paperwork sounds intimidating, but in practice it is a Saturday at our studio and a single PUSPAKOM visit. We do the chasing — you do the patient waiting.” — Cikgu Tan, Conversion Specialist
